My newest (and probably last) STAR TREK novel, RESISTANCE, is in stores this week. I wrote it more than two years ago, while my husband was undergoing chemotherapy for nonHodgkins lymphoma.
The inscription "Heers to Hope" is the motto of my very dear friend Sara, who was told some years ago that her cancer, which had spread to her brain, was so advanced that she was terminal. She was sent home to get her affairs in order. Fortunately, Sara didn't listen to them. Her cancer went into full remission, and today she's pursuing a career in photography.
Heers to hope, everyone!

You are J.M. Dillard? How cool is that! I own this book, I plan to read it very soon. It was out here last week, so I bought it as soon as it came out.

Dear bloggers, Jeanne is one of the kindest, most generous, and most talented of authors. I've known her for over 20 years and her spirit and passion has not diminished for her love of writing, as well as her generosity to her friends. I last physically saw Jeanne at a Star Trek convention in Georgia 11 years ago and I miss her. Her wild red hair that stores pens, the Nixon-nose, the gentle good humor of this woman has stayed with me. If this is Jeanne's swan song in the world of Trek, it is a sad day for the genre. Thank you, Jeanne, for a rip-roaring adventure in the world of STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION.

My Sara, my sweet sister,
I want everyone to know how amazing Sara is. She is my dearest friend and I found her when my husband George was diagnosed with lymphoma. Sara is a cancer survivor in spades -- when her lymphoma spread to her brain, she was told to put her affairs in order. But Sara clung to hope -- and in fact started signing all her posts, Heers to Hope! (The disease affected her ability to spell -- but as she points out, spelling is way over-rated.)
If there's a living saint, it's Sara, and I adore her without reserve.
